Provisional Dating and Identification of Beaker

June 13, 2011

Hello everyone,

We have a provisional identification of the Beaker ceramics in the cist. This is quite interesting, for it is a variant known as ‘All Over Cord’ Beaker, which is the earliest form of this material and is contemporaneous with that at Amesbury in Wessex, which has been such a profoundly fascinating find.

Amesbury Archer Page, Wessex Archaeology

The date of this material is roughly 2400 BC (calibrated), so we are dealing with quite an unique discovery in the Scottish Borders.

With Best Regards,

Kristian
